Modern Minimalist
Residential Apartment
Ground floor 25 square meter apartment in Gdynia, Poland. It has floor to ceiling glass windows and doors that open up onto a terrace and garden. It has two fixed stacks placed on the ‘entrance’ wall.
Two main design options have been proposed, one that works around the existing layout and the second design re-looks at the space as new. Both options look at design strategies to maximise the area of the apartments and make as much of the space as possible usable.
Both options make use of similar finishes which are durable and can be replaced easily if needed. Bright light materials and clean finishes have been incorporated to allow the space to feel spacious.
The first design option is developed further with the kitchen and bathroom staying in fixed positions while the lounge and bedroom space can be reconfigured into different options.
In option 1.1, the lounge area continues on from the kitchen, allowing there to be some breathing space before you reach the sleeping area. The space is more open and connected.
Option 1.2 has been design to offer additional sleeping places if needed. The kitchen has been shortened in order to allow for the additional sleeping spaces. The fold away beds allows more usable space in the apartment.
Option 2 offers a completely new design which creates a channel at the entrance with the kitchen acting as a diving wall to conceal the bathroom. On the other side of the channel is a built in storage unit which conceals one of the stacks and then extends into a desk for a home office. A sliding panel allows the kitchen or bedroom giving the space an overall cleaner less busy space. The bathroom which backs the kitchen has been arranged to maximise the space creating generous proportions.
Either option is well suited for a bachelor apartment for longer term rentals as well as shorter AirBnB stays.
